Call of Cthulhu, the mystery and horror role-playing game

Designed for both beginners and veterans of the role-playing game, this basic box is a starter kit that contains everything needed to start playing in the Lovecraft universe.
To take your first steps gently in this game system, the box includes a book-style scenario in which you are the hero: Alone against the flames.
Once this initiatory adventure has been completed, players and guardians will then be able to immerse themselves in the three scenarios contained in booklet 3 of the box.

Your mission: investigation

This core set features five pre-printed investigators for use in the three scenarios of Book 3. However, players can also design their own characters using the rules from Book 2.
All members of the Society for the Exploration of the Unexplained (SEI), a group as informal as it is unofficial, these five investigators have the mission of discovering terrible secrets, confronting strange creatures and foiling the plans of evil sects.

When an interesting case arises, the leaders of the Society choose the investigators who will work to solve the mystery...

As outstanding investigators, you will be able to create and develop a story in which your characters are the main protagonists, determined to foil ambitious plots or stop monsters emerging from the abysses of space and time!

Progress of a game

One player leads the game: the Arcane Guardian. It is up to him to ensure that the rules are respected and to present the plot to the other participants. You can imagine a part as a sort of play where the actors would not have a text written in advance. The dice and rules of the game help determine whether your character succeeds or fails in his endeavors, while you find yourself thrust into dramatic and distressing situations.

The base box scenarios

In addition to the first introductory single-player scenario: Alone Against the Flames, the base box contains 3 mysterious adventures:

• The one who devoured the books: Aimed at 1 or 2 players plus the Guardian, this scenario is relatively short (between 1 to 3 hours). The Investigators are plunged into a story of burglary and stolen books. Combining theft, disappearance and espionage, this affair is very strange.
  
  
• On the Edge of Darkness: Designed to be played by 2 to 5 players in addition to the Guardian, this adventure is ideal for creating a group of investigators. As the characters meet around the deathbed of a mutual friend, he uses his last strength to ease his conscience. This secret will plunge players into an investigation imbued with spiritualism.
  
  
• Le Jazz du Maccabée: The story takes place in the 1920s in Harlem. Racial stereotypes and violence are at the heart of this adventure. In this harsh historical context, investigators will be immersed in jazz clubs in the midst of prohibition.

• This version is contained in a rigid, not flexible, cardboard box.
• The clues are duplicated (in booklet 4 and on separate sheets).
• The dice set is of excellent quality, and contains bonus and penalty dice of different colors.
• There is a purse with a “Cthulhesque” design for storing the dice, an A2 format map of Harlem, a cardboard folder for storing the loose sheets, and an additional blank investigator sheet.
