At the end of the Spanish Civil War, a group of Republican loyalists, called maquisards, continued to fight for democracy and freedom.
RESISTANCE ! is a single-player card game where you fight against the Franco regime through different missions.
You lead your group of brave guerrillas determined to accomplish these missions, defeat enemies and protect civilians.
History
Spain, 1936. General Franco and his troops advance through the territories of Spain, paving the way for a long period of civil war and repression. After the Spanish Civil War, a group of loyalists to the Republic continued their armed struggle, forming resistance groups, better known as “maquisards”. Hidden in the mountains, these men and women risked their lives to defend the ideals of democracy and freedom, against Franco's Army, the Civil Guard and the Armed Police. The maquisards were able to perfect their art of guerrilla warfare in France during the Second World War and were determined to retake their native land. In the head of each resistance fighter resounded the echo of the desire of so many compatriots: to resist!
Gameplay
Take on the role of Spanish resistance fighters, fighting the Franco regime. Over a series of rounds, you will undertake increasingly difficult missions. Successfully completing missions will grant you the victory points needed to win the game. Failing these missions and failing to defeat your enemies could result in your defeat. At the end of each round, you will have to choose between ending the resistance or taking the risk of continuing and accepting a new mission.
The game is played in a series of rounds. Each round is divided into 4 phases:
PLANNING – Play as guerrillas and choose a mission.
ATTACK – Trigger Defense effects and play guerrillas.
AFTERMATH – Check civilian casualties, observe mission outcome, and potentially end resistance.
RECOVERY – Clear the playing area, draw a new hand and check for spy losses.
The game ends in one of the following ways:
If you choose to end the resistance, total the victory points on the cards in the completed mission pile and determine the result of your resistance using the table provided.
If you fail to complete two missions, if you lose 5 civilians or if you draw a full hand of spies, your resistance is a failure and you lose the game. You don't score any points, even with your missions completed.
