You play as young scientists working alongside Marie Curie and helping her in her research. Together, you will discover radium, carry out experiments, improve your laboratory, write theses and obtain Nobel Prizes!
Marie Curie, born Maria Skłodowska on November 7, 1867 in Warsaw, Poland, was a pioneering scientist in the field of radioactivity, recognized today as one of the greatest scientists in history.
You play as young scientists working alongside Marie Curie and helping her in her research. Together, you will discover radium, carry out experiments, improve your laboratory, write theses and obtain Nobel Prizes!
By using the machine present in her laboratory, and represented by a cube tower, you will be able to manipulate and transform your resources in order to carry out various experiments on Pitchblende, Uranium and Radium. You will also be able to improve your workshop using cards that offer different bonuses. By writing Theses, you will be able to collect increasingly interesting bonuses.
HOW TO PLAY?
On your turn, you will follow 4 steps:
Use the Workshop machine: here, you take the cubes indicated on the Workshop tile from the reserve and throw them into the cube tower. Those that fall at the bottom of the tower are available for your research!
Carry out your research: during this phase, you must choose between recovering resources at the bottom of the tower or writing a Thesis. Your resources are placed in your Erlenmeyer flask. If you choose to take a Thesis, you recover the bonuses that are indicated on the Thesis tile recovered.
Carry out your experiments: here, you can undertake many actions, and in the order of your choice, such as buying an Activity card, transforming resources, validating your Personal Objective or validating Experiment tiles.
Rest: it's the end of your turn! You must check the number of resources present in your Erlenmeyer flask and you move the Workshop marker to the next space.
During your game, you will follow the major events of Marie Curie's life via a timeline. Once the players reach the end of it, the one with the most points wins the game!
As in In the Footsteps of Darwin, In the Footsteps of Marie Curie contains a special booklet that allows you to learn more about the life of the eminent scientist as well as her research subject: radioactivity.
You can discover in particular the major stages of her discoveries on Radium, her meetings with colleagues such as Einstein and the story behind her double Nobel Prize. And if you ask yourself questions like "how to determine the age of a fossil?", you will find the answer in this booklet!
