Pirate King is an explosive push-your-luck game where players take on the roles of pirates in search of glory, loot… and crowns! Each round is a race against time: should you draw another card to win more, or stop before the third curse sends you to the bottom?
With its wacky effects, unpredictable treasures, and monsters to face, Pirate King offers a dynamic experience blending tactics, luck, and dirty tricks. Ideal for groups looking for a fast-paced, fun, and slightly chaotic game.
Game Principle
Setup
Each player chooses a captain and a starting deck of 8 cards. The Monster and Loot cards are shuffled separately, forming two central draw piles. The last player to touch water becomes captain and starts the game.
Objective
Collect the most crowns in seven rounds to become the king (or queen) of the pirates.
Gameplay
A game consists of 7 rounds, divided into 5 phases:
Preparation: Two Monster cards and as many Loot cards as there are players are revealed.
Exploration (Stop or Go): All players simultaneously reveal the cards in their draw pile. They can continue exploring as long as they wish unless they reveal 3 curses: they sink and lose all their winnings for the round. At any time, a player can stop to secure the visible symbols (swords and gold).
Battle: The two players with the most swords each select a Monster card, starting with the strongest.
Loot Sharing: All remaining players choose a Loot card, based on their amount of gold.
End of Round: Each player discards the revealed cards. If their draw pile is empty, they shuffle their discard pile to form a new deck.
End of the Game
At the end of the 7th round, players count their crowns. The player with the most crowns is crowned Pirate King!
